Edwards' Young Adult fiction poses ethical dilemmas via mysteries against realistic settings whether outback Northern Territory, Antarctica, China, a community radio station or a Fake ID family-history relating to the 1956 Hungarian Uprising and an athlete defecting from the Melbourne Olympics. Edwards researches her settings, often by participant-observation, such as her Antarctic expedition. More recently she had written faster paced action, with film and TV in mind. She writes from male and female viewpoints.
