Booking Hazel as a speaker
Since Hazel writes across age groups, she speaks to adult groups or schools. If you wish to book Hazel for author talks, in-service days or school/library visits, contact her directly using the information on the bottom of this page. International and conference bookings must be made a year in advance. She accepts a certain number of interstate bookings annually. Specialised workshops can be arranged for gifted students.
Talks & workshops available
- Antarctic Writer on Ice: relating to her 2001 Antarctic expedition researching and the subsequent publications. Especially relevant for International Polar Year and for all age groups.
- Non Boring Writing for Your Grandkids: Especially appropriate for councils and libraries to offer as part of Seniors Week or for Literary Festivals, 'Non Boring Writing for Your Grandkids' is aimed at retirees and those 'genis' who have stories to pass on, but need to shape for younger listeners or readers.
This workshop provides skills in shaping those stories, so they will be accessible by child readers and looks at varied formats such as e- stories, photographic and audio stories. The emphasis will be on writing for specific children.
Prerequisites: An idea to write about and a possible child audience. Sessions would run 10am-3pm with lunch break to allow regional driving time for participants. A participant book would be provided and needs to be costed into the program by the organiser.
- 'Writing a Non Boring Family History' 9.30-3.30pm. For those contemplating or doing their family or organisational histories. Up to 70 participants. (Participant Copies of 'Writing a Non Boring Family History' to be costed into program by organiser) Workshop enrolment often given as a gift to an older family member.
- Non Fiction Projects: including Travel writing. Suitable for those wishing to record their travels or structure a project.
School Talks
- Collaborating on Cycling Solo: Ireland to Istanbul: Blogs, Bikes and getting Blokes reading. Using blogging as electronic autobiography. How to collaborate creatively.
- Authorpreneur: the business of being a writer: suitable also for secondary careers sessions regarding self employment.
- Creating Hippos: Suitable for primary and linked to cake eating hippo titles in various media.
- Outback Ferals Under Cover: designing books covers e.g. Outback Ferals project. Upper primary & secondary
Cost For Adult workshops: Presenter's fee & expenses
Participant's books supplied at RRP.
The Australian Society of Authors rates indicate the minimum for varied audiences, lengths and expenses.
