Hazel's Classroom Scripts

Acting out in the classroom has multiple value. Apart from allowing for improvisation, reading experience and group activities, the content provokes discussion amongst actors and audience. Active students have fun, and exercise as well as using all senses! Often scripts can be used more than once, and provide models for students' own script writing. When content links to curriculum, such as Antarctica, students gain from new perspectives on an issue, especially when characters may be non human, like icebergs!

Plays offer triple value: a chance to read aloud, to act and for the audience to think about the ideas content. Classroom scripts need a range of roles including elastic choruses, humour, an age-specific subject and ideas to discuss while rehearsing. All scripts have been trialled in schools. Appropriate for male or female casts, with minimal props or elaborate productions. Each class could produce a different play and combine in a Hippo-Fest, Embarrassing Moments or Antarctic-themed performance.

Sometimes scripts do not have a book cover, they are just performed! Some have been performed on stage, TV or radio.
