Speaker Topics: Antarctica Writer on Ice

In 2001, Hazel was awarded the Australian Antarctic Division Arts Fellowship and travelled to Casey Station on the ‘Polar Bird’ ice-ship. This visit has inspired a range of talks and presentations suitable for classrooms, clubs or conferences.

From Bergs to Boffins, the Adventures of a non-Adventurous Writer on Ice [suitable for clubs, conferences and secondary school students]

The Adventures of a non-Adventurous Writer on Ice Session includes 

  • First hand experience as a female Antarctic expeditioner
  • Beset - what happens when your ship is stuck in ice
  • The Frozen Chosen - the realities and language  of daily life on an Antarctic station
  • From icebergs to penguins - the natural beauty of the icy frontier
  • Haggs, quads and dozers - the vehicles of the station

Participants may choose to read the ‘Antarctic Writer on Ice‘ book or ‘Antarctica’s Frozen Chosen’ the Young Adult novel before or after the presentation.
